SHADYSIDE - It's that time once again for the Shadyside Fireman's Festival hosted by the Fireman's Association.
As always, the festival will begin on July 31 and will end on Aug. 3. The OR&W Fireman's Parade will be held on Friday, Aug. 2.
"It's still going to be the Fireman's Association that sponsors the festival," said OR&W Fire Chief David Lenz. "It's still the same thing we have always done ... The only difference is we are going to have the OR&W Parade, instead of Shadyside Fireman's Parade."
The lineup is at 6 p.m. at East 40th St.
The parade will began at 7 p.m. Trophies will be awarded for the newest engine, newest squad, newest tanker, newest ladder, newest brush, oldest truck and chief's choice.
There is no resignation.
On Wednesday, July 31, the cross country team will hold a foot race by the Shadyside High School. Bingo will be held every night and starts about 7 p.m.
"There will be nothing different about this year, other then we will be supporting the OR&W Fire District, not the Shadyside Fire Department," said Lenz. "The funds come from the ticket sales, rides and food ... The money goes right back into the district."
"Fireman's parades and festival are kind of a dying breed, there are so many departments that just don't do it anymore," said Lenz. "It is a lot of work, a lot of time, a lot of money spent, so a lot of departments just don't do it anymore."
