LONG, John Hartsell, Jr., 79, of Woodsfield, formerly of Maryville, TN passed from this life to be with our Lord Jesus Christ Monday, August 19, 2013 at Liza's Place concluding his battle with COPD and Lung Cancer.
He was born June 25, 1934 in Maryville, TN, the son of Lorena (Clemens) and John Hartsell Long, Sr.
He was a graduate of Porter High School class of 1952 in Maryville, TN. A member of First Baptist Church, Woodsfield, a member of Woodsfield Chapter #268 Order of Eastern Star, a Free & Accepted Mason of Monroe Lodge #189, Woodsfield, Past Associate Guardian of Bethel #78 of the International Order of Job's Daughters.
He worked at Alcoa, Caterpillar and Olin Matheson, retiring from Consolidated Aluminum Corporation, Hannibal after 36 years of service. He loved genealogy, watching his grandkids playing sports and tinkering on his laptop computer!
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, of 50 years, Mary Ruth (Kirby) Long; sisters and brothers- in-law, Elnora and Henderson McClanhahan, Dorothy and Howard Siler, Kathleen and Rev. Glenn Grubb; brothers, Dallas Long, Marvin Long and Paul Long; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dolly (Milsaps) Kirby, Juanita (Kirby) and Jack Davis, Violet (Kirby) and Jack Brown, Billy (Iva) Kirby; two neices, Brenda Brown Lindsay and Jackie Brown.
He is survived by his four daughters, Deborah (Ned) Day, Angela (Earl) Rice, both of Woodsfield, Sheila (Brian) McKee of Clarington, Sarah (Ty) Smith of Powhatan Point; brother, O Joe (Ruth) Long; brother-in-law, Wilford Kirby; sister-in-law, Rowena (Kirby) Long, all of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Betsy (Day) and Phillips, Erica (Day) and Jeff McConaughy, Linsly and Lisa Rice, Courtney (Rice) and Craig Vinson, Morgan McKee, Adam McKee, Jennifer Smith and Zachary Smith; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Claire Phillips, Neil McConaughy, Trey and Bryce Wright, and William Rice.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6 p.m. until funeral service at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield, 114 N. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio with Bro. Tommy Mills and Evangelist Keith Jones officiating.
Friends also received from 10-11 a.m. Friday, August 23 at the Church with Graveside Services following at Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield.
Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the church.
