Suspicious Yorkville fire probed

August 21, 2013
Times Leader

YORKVILLE - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the state fire marshal's office are investigating suspicious fires at a vacant house at 1913 County Road 2, Yorkville, on Tuesday.

A deputy was called to the house Tuesday evening by the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department. A beer bottle with a wick sticking out was found inside the house after the minor fire was extinguished, a deputy reported.

The deputy was at the Yorkville fire station when a second report of a fire at the same house was received. A burning plastic gas can and two beer bottles with wicks were found.

The sheriff's department reported a yellow liquid was inside the bottles.

A sample of the liquid will be sent to the state fire marshal's office for analysis, the sheriff's department reported.
