MARTINS FERRY - An early morning fire in Martins Ferry left one family searching for shelter as the weekend began as their home was a total loss and needed to be torn down.
Around 8:30 a.m. Friday, a fire was reported at a house on 900 S. Zane Hwy.
The Martins Ferry Fire Department and Emergency squad responded immediately.
AN?EARLY?morning fire at this 900 S. Zane Hwy. home in Martins Ferry resulted in no injuries, but the house was a total loss and had to be demolished.
There were no injuries and all of the family's pets made it out of the house safety.
A representative from the state fire marshal's office was on hand to investigate. While the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, the rep was able to figure out that the fire started in the kitchen.
"The house is a complete loss, there is water and smoke damage," Martins Ferry Fire Chief Jack Regis said. "We focused most of our efforts on the defensive attack because of the heavy fire and also the contain the fire to one structure, which we pretty much did other then the water and smoke damage in the house next door."
Because of the condition of the house following the blaze being extinguished, it had to be torn down.
