POWHATAN Point's Village Council meeting, held Tuesday night, got its start with an executive session and ended with a vote approving use of the marina for Christmas in the Village and the announcement of a town hall meeting concerning the library.

Nick Fortunato, area landman for Purple Land Management LLC of Canonsburg, Pa., and Ryan Murray, also with that firm, entered into an executive session with council to discuss contract negotiation. The session lasted 30 minutes. According to the men, they are contracted by Gulfport Energy. Neither action nor discussion was held with regard to that session.

Mayor Mark McVey told council he had received a request by a member of the Christmas in the Village committee to move the Nov. 9 event from along Ohio 7 to the marina. McVey said Christmas in the Village has grown to the extent that the marina will be a safer location as well as being larger to accommodate vendors. On a motion by Councilman Rob Caldwell, council approved the request unanimously.

The mayor announced a town hall meeting regarding the library. He said Yvonne Meyers, district library director, will be at the Powhatan Library Oct. 7 from 5-7 p.m.

Councilman Caldwell inquired, as he does at each council session, about any action concerning work on the traffic light at the intersection of Ohio 7 and Ohio 148. McVey indicated nothing has been done.

Fire Chief Tom Nelms reported on work that needs done to bring the two fire engines into compliance. He said it will cost about $3,000 for both vehicles. On a motion by Councilman Jerry Binni, the expenditure was approved. Also given approval was the repair of a garage door at the fire station. The vote was 6-0.

McVey said concrete pads for trash receptacles and park benches will soon be poured. The pads are the final touches for the JB Green Team grant project.

Council set trick or treat night as Oct. 31 from 6-7:30 p.m.
