By GLYNIS VALENTI - Staff Writer , Times Leader

BARNESVILLE-Mayor Ron Bischof and Village Council President Dale Bunting presented a proclamation to the family of the late Paul Reed naming Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 Paul "Reedy" Reed Day.

A Barnesville resident, Reed was involved with the Barnesville Boosters, The 200 Club, Barnesville Park Board, the Beast of the East Baseball Tournament, the Pumpkin Festival and was a timekeeper for Barnesville Athletics for 30 years. The OHSAA recognized Reed with a State Award for Exemplary Service to the Youth of Ohio.

Reed was a member of the Park Board when he passed away on Aug. 18. Council voted to appoint his daughter, Michelle McLaughlin, to his seat on the board until Jan. 31, 2016, the remainder of his term.

Council formally approved the use of village streets and parking lots for this week's Pumpkin Festival. Mayor Bischof is also hoping to institute traffic control at the intersection of State Routes 147 and 800, especially for the heaviest traffic periods. He will be discussing this with Police Chief Dave Norris and members of the Pumpkin Festival Committee.

The following building permits were approved by council: Wildman, 611 Bond Ave., for replacing siding on the house; Lucas, 1094 E. Main, for replacing roof shingles with tin on a house. Tom Michelli suggested that crews demolishing structures should have a water truck hosing the debris down to reduce the amount of dust and dirt. Fire Chief Bob Smith said that the contractor is responsible for providing clean-up measures.

Councilman John Jefferis noted that there is a new business, M & M Pump and Supply, going into the development district east of the town, and another business, a mental health care provider from Zanesville, is coming to downtown Barnesville.

Members approved Pay Ordinance #19 in the amount of 54,993.88.

A Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Administrator's office. A safety committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers.

Barnesville Village Council meets every other Monday at 7 p.m.
