WOLFHURST - Coach Ron Kelly's Bridgeport squad improved to 8-5 on the season by virtue of a three-game sweep, 25-21, 25-7 and 25-21, against visiting Beallsville.
However, Tuesday evening's match, against the Blue Devils inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium did not go exactly as planned for the Bulldogs.
"I guess I would have to say we did what we had to do tonight," Kelly said. "We had some trouble with our serve-receive, but on the positive side, we served very well and I thought we were communicating well on the court."
Bridgeport’s Briana Massey faces off against Beallsville defenders Ella Campbell (17) and Morgan Marley (11) while teammate Alysa Crook (7) looks on.
Beallsville rallied in the first match to make it a contest but never found a rhythm in the second as the hosts easily rolled to a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Devils would sprint out to an 8-1 lead before the Bulldogs got a side out and began to work their way back into the match.
"It has been the same story all season," said Beallsville head coach Jeff Fluharty. "We are inconsistent. We are playing well then it is like someone flips a switch and suddenly we are a different team."
Bridgeport would rally back to an 11-all tie before the Blue Devils would move ahead again 17-14. The two would again be knotted at 20 before the hosts made final charge for the sweep.
Cheyenne Flowers paced the Bulldogs at the net with a game-high eight kills adding seven digs, three aces and a block. Alysa Crook set 14 assists, notched three kills and two aces. Maclaine Murad served up 13 points on eight aces with a kill, while Amber Millard served 12 points with three aces, five kills and two assists.
