SHADYSIDE - Firefighters from three local fire departments battled a blaze in Shadyside around 4:56 a.m. Sunday.
The home, located at 3931 Leona Ave., belonged to Charles Ghent. He was home alone at the time the fire broke out.
Ghent was sleeping at the time and exited the home through a window onto the roof. Ghent was uninjured as the OR&W?brought him down upon arriving to the scene.
There was no one else home at the time when the fire broke out.
According to OR&W Fire Chief David Lenz, the fire started in the kitchen before moving into the second floor bathroom and the attic.
Lenz also added that while they know where the fire began, the cause of the fire is still undetermined and the state fire marshal will be in this morning to determine the cause of the house fire.
There is heavy damage throughout the house and it only took 20 to 30 minutes to put of the fire.
According to a spokesperson at Belmont County 911, crews were at the scene until 7:30 a.m. Responding were the OR&W Fire District, Neffs Fire Department and Martins Ferry Fire Department.
The Salvation Army Canteen was also on the scene.
