BRIDGEPORT -- Federal officials are conducting an investigation after more than $80,000 was reportedly stolen from the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District. The investigation started last week when school officials were notified that the district's account at Citizens Bank was overdrawn.
Bridgeport Schools Superintendent Ted Downing said he believes the district's computer system was hacked. The FBI is looking into the matter. The money had not been recovered.
District employees were notified about the compromise in the computer system Monday. Downing said extra security measures are now in place.
