POWHATAN POINT - Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas is looking for clues into the murder of former village Mayor Marvin Brown, who died as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained Monday in a hunting cabin on his property.
"We are handling this as a homicide," Lucas said. "We arrived on scene and called for the county coroner."
Lucas said agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are also working on the case, as the agents were on the scene most of the night Monday.
"We are pursuing this aggressively," Lucas added, though he declined to say if he had identified any suspects in the case. He also declined to indicate if the crime scene appeared to be a robbery.
Brown, 73, owned a business in Powhatan Point, where he served as village mayor for a time in the 1980s.
Lucas said anyone who may have additional information should call his office at 740-695-7933, ext. 112.
