THREE PROJECTS from Belmont County were among 21 approved by the District 18 Executive Committee which met in Marietta on Wednesday for the purpose of recommending projects for funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
A total of 51 projects were submitted by local governments in the 10 counties in District 18.
A total of about $7,600,000 was available for the projects. Eight projects were submitted from Belmont County with three of them being selected. They include a $398,973 grant for the resurfacing of County Highway 26 from Bethesda to Morristown submitted by the Belmont County Commissioners; A $399,600 grant for replacing two county bridges, one on Pipe Creek Road and one on OK Road, submitted by the Belmont County Engineer; and a grant of $316,392 and a $150,000 loan submitted by Martins Ferry for the resurfacing of Zane Highway.
The 21 projects will now be submitted to the Ohio Public Works Commission for final approval.
No approved project can be awarded until each applicant receives a contract from the Ohio Public Works Commission which will be after July 1, 2014.
