OXLEY, Gilbert "Buck," 73, of Tiltonsville, formerly of Rayland, died Friday, November 8, 2013.
He was born September 22, 1940 to the late Gilbert C. and Charlotte "Wynetta" Mayer Oxley.
Buck retired after 40 years of hard work from the International Iron Workers Local Union 549 in Wheeling, WV. He was a Presbyterian by faith and a member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge #182, Royal Arch Masons Bellaire Chapter 107, Order of the Eastern Star Labelle Chapter 414 Steubenville, and Stumptown Steam Threshers. He also enjoyed cooking, making homemade sausage, gardening and sharing his bounty with others. He also loved to fish. Buck collected and showed antique engines and farm equipment and could be found at the Jefferson County Fair with some of his collection. He spent much of his time daily with his morning "coffee klatch" at the gas station and with his friends at the Yorkville Bakery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Jane Burns Oxley, in January 1976.
Buck devoted his life to caring for his mother and raising his two children, son, Jeff (Kathy) Oxley, of Rayland and daughter, Melissa (Jeffrey) Runnion, of Tiltonsville. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Danielle Frakes and Matthew Frakes and a sister, Cheryl Schunn, all of Rayland.
Friends were received to pay tribute to Buck and celebrate his life on Wednesday, November 13 from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. as well as on Thursday, November 14 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tom Thomas officiating at Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, OH. Internment followed at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.
