BROWN, Marvin Duane

BROWN, Marvin Duane, 73, of Powhatan Point, OH, died Monday November 18, 2013 at his home.

Marvin was born August 6, 1940 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Odell and Dolly Hess Brown Goudy. After Odell Brown's passing in the Powhatan mine fire of 1944, Marvin was raised by his step-father, Friend "Buss" Goudy whom also preceded him in death.

He was a 1958 graduate of Powhatan High School, was selected to play and was Ohio squad co- captain in the OVAC football all-star game in 1958, was an Army Veteran serving in France from 1958 until 1961. He was retired from Ohio Ferro-Alloy, Powhatan Point, OH, and currently owned and operated the Powhatan Construction Company and was a sub- contractor for Murray Energy.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Saner Post 228, VFW Post 5565, The Masonic Lodge Moriah 105 all of Powhatan Point, OH. He was a member of Osiris Shrine, Wheeling, Hope Commandery Bellaire Council Bellaire Chapter 107 and a Methodist by Faith.

He served as Mayor of Powhatan Pt. in 1984 and 1985.

Marvin was an avid outdoorsman and loved the WVU Mountaineers.

Surviving is his wife, Deborah Doty Brown, three sons, Michael (Michelle) Brown of Atlanta GA, Thomas (Debbie) Brown of Moundsville, WV, Christopher (Heidi) Brown of Powhatan, PT, OH, a step-son, Brian McLeod of Moundsville, WV, three step-daughters, Anna Titus of Chatsworth, GA, Rebecca McLeod of Barnesville, OH, and Meredith McLeod of Powhatan Pt, OH, a sister, Muriel (Richard) Coleman of Martins Ferry, OH, two brothers, Donald O. Brown of Powhatan Pt, OH and Robert F. Brown of Petaluma, California, 22 grand children, several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday from Noon until 8p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 186 Main Street Powhatan Point, Ohio, where funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 with Reverend Theresa Bobot officiating.

Internment follows in Powhatan Cemetery Powhatan Point, Ohio.

Powhatan Veterans services will be held at 7:15p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Military Graveside honors will be conducted by the Powhatan Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Powhatan American Legion Post 228, Ladies Auxiliary Youth Fund, c/o First National Bank of Powhatan Pt. Powhatan Pt, OH 43942.
