YORKVILLE - Plans for the annual Remembrance Tree were discussed at Tuesday night's village council meeting.

The Remembrance Tree is intended to be used by anyone wishing to honor loved ones with ornaments or decorations. The tree will be put up Sunday, Dec. 8, and there will be an official lighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m with musical entertainment and light refreshments.

Council also discussed the upcoming Christmas parade, which will be Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. with line-up beginning at 4 p.m. The parade route will follow Williams Street, turn at the red light and head back up Martha Street. So far, around 40 units have registered, and council is expecting more within the days leading to the parade.

"I think it'll be even bigger and better than last year," said council member Dana Brown.

The council voted to adopt a new mission statement. It read, "In partnership with its residents, business owners, civic organizations, and surrounding communities, the Village of Yorkville pledges to create and maintain a clean, secure and inviting community for all stakeholders."

Parking on curbs and sidewalks was an issue discussed. Some residents have failed to respond to requests to park elsewhere. If warnings fail to prompt change in the future, residents who park on curbs and sidewalks will receive parking tickets for the violations.

The ongoing issue of vacant structures in the village was discussed.

Two owners received final notices, after previous letters were sent out in June and September. Six others will be receiving final notices shortly if they do not fill out required paperwork. Council agreed that even if buildings are being used only for storage, registration still needs to be filed.

The next village council meeting will be held Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
