By MICHAEL SCHULER - Staff Writer , Times Leader

BELLAIRE The Bellaire Local School District Board of Education took the first step to have a levy placed on the May ballot during its regular meeting Monday.

It will be the eighth attempt by the district to get it out of fiscal emergency and the latest attempt to generate new operating funds for the district which it hasn't done in 37 years.

During the meeting, the board approved a resolution of necessity from the county auditor's office for the emergency tax levy. No millage was specified but the district is looking to generate $698,325 annually if the levy is approved.
