Monroe, Beallsville lose

December 21, 2013
By Staff Reports , Times Leader

WOODSFIELD -- Monroe Central saw its chances of going to 6-0 wiped out early on Friday night against visiting Fort Frye.

Veteran Seminoles head coach Scooter Tolzda thought his squad was in great shape against the Cadets, but an injury to senior Curtis Nixon put a damper on things early on as Monroe Central dropped a 65-39 decision.

The injury to Curtis really deflated us as a team, Tolzda explained. We never recovered.

Fort Frye (4-1) led 20-12 after one quarter and held Monroe Central (5-1) to a mere 14 points combined in the second and third frames en route to a 45-26 lead entering the final period.

Levi Brown paced the Seminoles with 11 points. Tanner Burkhart added eight. Gavin Morton had five of their 15 rebounds.

Monroe Central returns to action next Friday at West Muskingum before returnng home Saturday, Dec. 28 to host Shenandoah in a makeup game.

Bishop Donahue 110, Beallsville 43

At McMechen, the debuting Bishops scored 30 points in the first quarter and never looked back in rolling past the Blue Devils (0-5).

Dalton Secrest had 14 points for Beallsville. Tristan Palmer chipped in 10.

Brice Jones paced five players in double figures for Donahue with 28 points. Chase Truax added 26 and Jared Yates 15. Taylor Straughn finished with 12 and Josh Miller 10.

Beallsville hosts Union Local next Friday.
