Dr. Favede becomes OOA president

Lee M. Favede, O.D., of St. Clairsville, was installed as the president of the Ohio Optometric Association at the annual OOA Congress held in conjunction with the EastWest Eye Conference in October 2013. Favede is a 1993 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry and has practiced with his father, Leon F. Favede, O.D. at Drs. Favede and Associates in Bridgeport for the past twenty years.

Dr. Favede served on the OOA Board in various capacities since 2007. He is a past governor of Zone 5 and Key Optometrist. He serves as a volunteer for the Realeyes/Save Our Sight Classroom Initiative, developed by the Ohio Optometric Association and funded by the Save Our Sight Fund, educates Ohio students on the importance of vision care and eye safety. The Realeyes program is provided at no cost to schools, libraries and community groups. Favede has been providing this service to area schools since 2003. Favede is also a provider for VISION USA which provides a basic eye examination to low-income individuals in the US at no cost. Member doctors of the American Optometric Association donate services.

In 2012 Favede was recognized for his efforts on behalf of optometry by being named the Key Optometrist of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the profession of optometry. Specifically noted were Dr.Favede's legislative efforts on behalf of patients and the profession at the state and national levels.

Dr. Favede works closely with state elected officials relative to vision and eye health issues. He is an OOA keyperson for Senator Lou Gentile and Representative Jack Cera.

Within his community, Dr. Favede is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Sunrise Morning Rotary, Sons of Italy and former president of The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Belmont County.

He and his wife, Ginny, a Belmont County Commissioner, reside in St. Clairsville with their two children, Cecelia and Frankie. Cecelia is a pre-med major at Miami University and Frankie is a freshman at St. Clairsville High School.

The mission of the Ohio Optometric Association is to promote high quality optometric care for the residents of Ohio, preserve and advance the profession of optometry, serve as an advocate for patients and members, and serve as the principal resource for public health information regarding the eyes and vision.
