Harrison County escapee captured

CADIZ - Chris Johnson, who escaped from the Harrison County Sheriff`s office last week, was apprehended by the Weirton Police Friday evening.

Johnson was taken into custody near the Holiday Inn on Three Springs Drive.

Harrison County Sheriff Ron Myers said authorities in Harrison County had been pinging Johnson`s phone in the area which aided in the search. Officials at the Weirton Police Department had been staked out in an area when Johnson drove by in a vehicle.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and took Johnson into custody without incident.

Johnson was charged with DUI, obstructing justice and an additional fugitive from justice charge. Johnson is being held at Northern Regional Jail awaiting an extradition hearing. he is being held on a bonds from the common pleas court for a probation violation and forgery charges.

He was working in the sheriff`s office cleaning and escaped from the rear of the office through a gate that malfunctioned and did not close after a unit left through the gate.
