BEALLSVILLE - It'll be a happy new year for rookie Blue Devils' head coach Jordan Stephens after he watched his team post its first victory of the season.

The Blue Devils used a strong second and third quarter to fend off invading Valley, 79-74 Monday night.

"It feels great," Stephen said of winning his first game. "The 0-7 start hurt, but it's definitely nice to get one."

The Blue Devils were led by Dalton Secrest's 24 points. Logan Nippert and Chase Mercer added 14 and 12, respectively.

The loss drops Valley, which was led by Joey Preat's 16, to 3-5.

The Blue Devils host Bridgeport at 5 p.m. in a varsity only affair Friday night.

Buckeye Trail 61, River 49

OLD WASHINGTON - A rough second quarter proved to be too much for River to overcome in a road PVC encounter with Buckeye Trail Monday night as the Warriors posted a 61-49 victory.

The loss drops River to 1-7 on the season, while the Warriors are now 5-3.

The Warriors were led by Tyler Starr's 22 points. Lane Starr and Jed Burga each had 10 points.

The Pilots, meanwhile, were paced by Eric Dierkes' 20. Ryan Indermuhle and Parker Caretti each had eight, while Cole Isaly added 7.

Bishop Donahue 98, St. John 38

McMECHEN - The high scoring Bishops raced out to a 24-11 lead after one and never looked back en route to coasting to a 98-38 victory against St. John Central Monday night.

The Bishops (3-1) outscored the Irish, 28-12 in the second quarter and 31-3 in the third.

Donahue was led by Chaice Truex's 24 points. Jered Yates and Taylor Straughn added 14 apiece.

St. John was led by Guy Pagano and Lance Williams. Each went for 10.
