MERRITT, Robert Bruce "Bob," 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born July 26, 1926 in Uniontown, Ohio, a son of the late James Bentley Merritt and Marjorie Lee Merritt.

Bob was a retired aeronautical engineer for General Electric, a Presbyterian, a graduate of St. Clairsville High School and Ohio State University, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, and a member of American Legion Post #159 in St. Clairsville.

He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor and a big heart for every child. He was an accomplished CFII pilot and loved flying and traveling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helene M. Hart.

Surviving are his brothers and sister, William L. (Norma) Merritt of Hamilton, Ohio, James B. (Helen) Merritt of Worthington, Ohio, John N. (Peggy) Merritt of Estero, Florida, Lois I. (Harold) Barr of Morristown, and Richard K. (Linda) Merritt of St. Clairsville; many cherished nieces and nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with pastor Gary Lee Hart officiating.

Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Clairsville American Legion Post # 159, P.O. Box 495, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.

Full military honors will be provided by the Belmont County Council of American Legions at 12:45 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
