Commissioners continue business

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - In the wake of a recent cold spell, Belmont County commissioners met and took stock of county business Wednesday.

Guests made several points during the meeting. Richard Hord inquired if the former habitation center could be used for an administrative office for Senior Services.

Commissioner Ginny Favede said that was among the options the coordinator had submitted to the board. She noted there are different options available to obtain funds for renovation.

Other guests complimented the management of Senior Services and the work to keep seniors informed during the recent cold weather.

In other matters, the Public Defenders Commission Board will have an opening available for interested citizens. The board meets four times per year at the public defender's office.

Commissioners approved various travel requests submitted by the engineer, granting permission for the engineer and department employees to travel through the state to attend various meetings and trainings and to obtain parts and supplies needed for 2014.

Commissioners approved the payment of annual dues for the County Engineers Association of Ohio totaling $3,520, a per capita assessment of five cents.

Commissioners reappointed Stanley Borovich to the Buckeye Hills RC&D Council as a member at large for a three-year term Jan. 1, 2014-Dec. 31, 2016.

Commissioners advised the Ohio Division of Liquor Control that they do not request a hearing regarding a request for a liquor permit for Food by Jane, 41010 National Road, Union Township. The license covers wine and certain prepackaged drinks for on-premises consumption or in sealed containers for carry out.

Commissioners entered into the Third Amendment to Tower Attachment Communications Site Sublease Agreement on behalf of the county 911 office with Alltel Communications, LLC, dba Verizon Wireless, for an additional antenna to be placed on the Alledonia 911 tower site.

Commissioners will advertise for bids for Belmont County Homemaker and Personal Care Services for Senior Services of Belmont County.

Commissioner accepted a quote from Digital Date Communications for $1,174.68 each for the purchase of two Lenovo 21.5 All-in-One PCs and Office 2013 Home and Business software for the commissioners office.

Commissioners authorized the clerk of the board to establish a date and time for a subdivision hearing regarding the Plat of Starr Addition, Warren Township.

Commissioners granted the final plat for Jackson Trail, Warren Township.

The commissioners will reconvene today at 9:30 a.m. for an executive session with the Ohio SPCA, the prosecutor's office and the sheriff's office regarding issues submitted to the board regarding the Belmont County Animal Rescue League.

A reorganizational meeting will be held Jan. 13, with the next regular meeting Wednesday at 9 a.m. Henceforth the commissioners will meet at 9 a.m.
