Sparking Excellence

CHALLENGING YOURSELF to be the best you can be. It is something we all should embrace.

Often times, students need a little push to make that happen. Motivation can make a big difference in helping youths attain greater achievement.

Martins Ferry High School students are being provided a stimulus to better themselves.

The Hess Corp. is establishing the Challenge Inc. program at Ferry High School. It is one that helps students raise their personal bar while also giving them a chance to make some money.

The Hess Corp. will present incentives of $200 to a student from each grade level in the categories of attendance, academic improvement based on GPA, community service, and performance in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

The program provides students the opportunity to do the right thing and in the process be successful. The discipline experienced through the challenge will help mold the qualities that will prove beneficial in life.

The Hess Corp. will be presenting $1,000 at the Ferry senior banquet. It is a nice stipend to package with a high school diploma.

Our youths are this nation's greatest resource. They are the foundation of our future.

Self-motivation is a commendable attribute. However, it is not one possessed by every student. The Hess Corp.'s challenge program may prove the ignition to spark students to strive to be their best.

The Hess Corp. deserves an A+ for its efforts to stimulate the education process. We also commend the Martins Ferry School District for taking advantage of a golden opportunity.
