MILES, Herbert Steven “Steve"

MILES, Herbert Steven "Steve," 64, of Freeport, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Twin City Hospital in Dennison.

Born in Birch River, WV, on November 10, 1949, he was a son of the late Herbert A. and Ethel M. (Brown) Miles.

After moving to Ohio, he spent much of his career in the oil drilling business as vice president of Mid- Atlantic Oil and president of Miles Drilling.

For the past 20 years, he was owner, manager, and a fixture at the Raider Family Restaurant in Freeport. He loved the restaurant business, owning as many as three restaurants at one time. He was loved by his family, staff, customers, and countless friends.

Steve was a member of the Quaker City 500 Masonic Lodge and the Freeport 415 Masonic Lodge.

Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years, M. Joy (Poulson) Miles. They were married March 23, 1974. Also surviving are a son, Marcas L. Miles of Uniontown; a daughter, Rita L. (James) Heath of Warsaw; five grandchildren, Mason, Bryce, Abi, Nathan, and Jacob; a brother, F. Jay Miles of Brunswick; a sister, Carolyn Seagraves of Wooster; and his mother- in-law, Lois Poulson of Tippecanoe.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Steven Lucas Miles.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Deersville United Methodist Church with Pastor Luann Youngman officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Union Cemetery, Deersville.

Visitation will be held in Deersville United Methodist Church Tuesday, January 21, from 4-8 p.m.
