CADIZ - Harrison County voters will be asked in May to approve a quarter-mill levy for the health department.
Harrison County commissioners voted to place a new tax levy on the spring ballot which would provide funding to "meet current expenses and expand health services to the people of Harrison County."
According to Ohio law, all petitions must be filed at the County Board of Elections office no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, which is 90 days prior to the election. The levy was not filed with the Harrison County Board of Elections, which was closed today; however, a sign on the door stated that the deadline would be extended through Thursday.
The board approved agreement 19-14, a lease with the Department of Job and Family Services for the Government Center and a request from Scott Blackburn, director, for $75,000.
The board also paid the monthly mandated share to DJFS, however, the board moved to retract and table a memorandum of understanding with DJFS regarding rent for the building which the county owns and maintains.
The board approved agreement 20-14 with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles at the request of Leslie Milliken for lease of its office space in the Government Center. The deputy registrar for the county also thanked the board for the new restroom in her building.
Harrison County Engineer's Office Business Service Officer Doug Crabtree brought two RUMAs before the board. Commissioners approved agreement 23-14 with Blue Racer Midstream for 2.67 mi. of CR 45, 1.52 mi. of CR 66, 2.95 mi. of CR 49, 3.2 mi. of CR 22 and 1.46 mi. of CR 502. The board also approved agreement pending approval by the prosecutor with Chesapeake for 0.9 mi. of CR 31 and 0.6 mi. of CR 16.
Crabtree also asked the board to approve an order change to raise a man hole in Scio, bringing it up to grade. He also informed the board that the county was still running low on salt.
The board also approved a right-of-way for Markwest for a pipeline crossing.
Commissioners approved an appropriation request for the Home Choice Program.
