Sheriff’s office offers update on Powhatan murder

POWHATAN POINT - The Belmont County Sheriff's Department has released updated information on the murder of former Powhatan Mayor Marvin Brown.

According to Detective Sgt. Ryan Allar, it is believed that Brown knew the murderer. Authorities have cleared several suspects by polygraph testing and through processed evidence.

Brown, 73, died in November as a result of a gunshot wound. He was found in a hunting cabin on his property.

Brown's family is offering a reward totaling more than $20,000, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
