VANDYNE, Fred D. Jr., 76, of Powhatan Point, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at the family farm.
He was born on July 9, 1937 on the family farm at East Captina Highway, Jacobsburg, OH, son of the late Fred D. VanDyne Sr. and Minnie Mayhugh VanDyne.
He was the plant foreman of Knight Manufacturing in Shadyside and former employee of Belmont Stamping and the former Belmont Casket Company having worked in the same plant for over 53 years. Fred was a farmer and also loved sports and he filmed sporting events for River Local Schools for many years and also managed the pole vaulting at the Shadyside Track for years.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by an infant sister, Martha Adella VanDyne.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Helen Pittman VanDyne; his two children, Lori (Mark) Cooper and Scott VanDyne both of Powhatan Point; two grandsons which Fred was very proud of who both serve as fireman, Josh and Gavin Cooper of Powhatan Point; four brothers, Larry (Sarah) VanDyne of Lebanon Church, Virginia, Homer (Betty) VanDyne of Beallsville, Harold (Darlene) VanDyne of Powhatan Point and Alan VanDyne of Columbus, OH; four sisters, Juanita (George) Graham of Powhatan Point, Charlotte (Don) Smith of Mather, Pensylvania, Carol Ondrejko of Clinton, Maryland and Barbara (Charles) Smith of St. Clairsville; several nieces and nephews Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, OH, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, with George Graham officiating.
Burial follows in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, OH.
