ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL funding drive is nearly in the books. Almost but not at 100 percent, so we encourage all those with the means to contribute to the United Way Campaign of the Upper Ohio Valley.
Campaign officials report that they are quickly approaching the 85-percent mark, with $647,900 tallied thus far toward the goal of $777,777. That is a heartwarming development, but some work still needs done.
We believe, knowing the Ohio Valley's history of generosity, attaining the goal is just a matter of time.
Several of the Campaign Divisions have exceeded their goals: Local Business has reported $237,313, or 103 percent of its goal; Special Accounts has reported $72,218, or 103 percent of its goal. We tip our hats to both divisions for jobs well done.
The other divisions are knocking at the door of attainment. They are: Major Firms I, $185,791; Public Service, $47,585; Professional, $22,655; Community Development, $12,066; Brooke County, $18,168; Incoming Designations, $14,417 and Special Events, $37,684.
Funds raised from the annual campaign enable some 30 non-profit agencies to conduct their goodwill services that thousands of Ohio Valley residents depend on.
There is still time to conduct a workplace campaign or to make an individual donation. Please contact the United Way at 51-11th St., Wheeling, WV 26003, or call 304-232-4625.
The United Way's mission statement is: "Advancing the Common Good in The Upper Ohio Valley." We urge individuals and businesses to support the United Way in order for those in need get the help they desperately need and make the mission statement ring true.
