THOMPSON, Harry Clark, 86, of Adena, OH, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home in Adena, OH.
Harry was born on December 3, 1927, in Adena, OH, to the late Marion and Florence (Porter) Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Robert "Kelly" Thompson.
Harry was a proud veteran of World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy. He then served in the United States Army Reserve and retired with the rank of Major. He was the liaison Officer for the Admissions Office of the United States Military Academy. He also served as Commanding Officer of the 660th Transportation Company and the Maintenance Officer of the 463rd Engineer Battalion. He was Public Education Officer and Civil Affairs/Military Government Evaluator for the United States Army Unit Training Programs.
After retirement, he continued his involvement with the military as a 65-year member of the American Legion Adena Post 525 where he served as trustee, finance officer, Vice Commander and Commander (retired). He was also a member of AMVETS Post 567.
His civic and fraternal activities included Adena Lions Club, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity and was Presbyterian by faith.
He served as a member of the village of Adena Park Board, was a former councilman of Adena and former chairman of East Central Ohio Special Education Resource Center.
Harry was a graduate from Ohio Northern University with a degree in education and West Virginia University with a Masters in Education. He retired as superintendent of Bellaire City Schools. He was also an instructor in the Graduate School of Education and Educational Administration for the University of Dayton.
Harry was a Beloved husband to his surviving wife, Marjorie (Pat); Father of Samual (Nancy) Thompson, Marjorie (Don) Moore and Penny (Brian) Hedman; Grandfather of Suzanne (Jeremy) Winans, Todd Moore, Samantha (Sam) Baily, Nichole (Cliff) Crothers, Natalie (Rich) Clum, Jenna Hedman and Leah Hedman; Great- Grandfather to Katlyn, Tyrell and Ashley.
Friends will be received to pay tribute to Harry and celebrate his life on Tuesday, March 4 from 2-9 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Adena, OH. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 5 at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home with Pastor McPeek officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Adena United Methodist Church.
