The are certain things a Bud just can't pass up without stopping to investigate.
They include - in no particular order - the cosmetics counter at Macy's, a good rummage sale, free kittens and ... bakeries!
On a recent lunchtime Bud outing at the Hollywood Shopping Plaza in Steubenville, the Buds spotted Aubrey's Bakery nestled in the corner and were thus compelled to go in. (Did we ever mention that we love what we do?!) The Buds couldn't wait to sample goodies from the bakery that is run by a daughter/mother team and has been serving the Steubenville area since 2004.
Upon entering, the Buds were overwhelmed by the sweet smell of the many confections that begged to be consumed. Help! The gals also stopped to admire the many display cakes that demonstrated Aubrey's decorating talent. Moving along, the Buds made their way to the pastry counters to see what goodies they could get their hands on. The day's selection included Easter cut-out cookies, lady locks, lemon and caramel cups, buckeyes, turtles, Oreo truffles, macaroons, chocolate brownies, scones, coffee cakes and various other pastries. Where to begin?!
Both Buds ended up selecting a variety of cookies and scones to take home. Bud Em selected an Easter bunny cut-out cookie, a lemon cup, a caramel cup, a lady lock, and a pair of Oreo truffles. She also couldn't resist a cinnamon scone and a chocolate brownie with thick icing. The whole haul came to just over 6 bucks.
The cookies were both beautifully decorated and delicious. The delicate lady locks were light and flaky and the colorful lemon and caramel cups were almost too cute to eat - almost! Bud Em's favorite items were the rich Oreo truffles and the cinnamon scone topped with a sweet glaze. Perfect!!

Cakes, cookies, pastries, cookie trays, breakfast trays, more!
Bud Shaunna's haul included the lemon and caramel cups, lady locks (aka - cream horns - Bud S's all-time favorite pastry) and a cinnamon scone, as well as caramel thumbprints, powdered sugar coated wedding balls and crescent-shaped dipped butter cookies. Her total came to about 10 bucks for a dozen cookies and the scone.
It was extremely difficult to choose a favorite of the bunch, as all were full of homemade, sugary goodness. The scone was very light - not brick hard on the inside like some scones. Also, the lemon cups and caramel thumb prints stood out, and of course, the delicious cream corns were devoured immediately. Those were the only cookies Bud S didn't share with Bud Hubby. Sorry, but hands off the cream horns!
This turned out to be a great detour for the Buds, as our sweet teeth thanked us over and over (and over and over). If you should find yourself driving along Hollywood Boulevard in Steubenville, perhaps you should take a similar detour straight to Aubrey's Bakery!
