ST. CLAIRSVILLE - With the school year winding down, members of the St. Clairsville-Richland City Board of Education discussed a number of housekeeping items at its regular meeting Wednesday morning.
Baccalaureate will be 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's. The OVAC Banquet of Champions is 6 p.m. Monday at WesBanco Arena, while the spring choir concert will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the high school gym.
The senior class picnic is slated for May 22 at Oglebay Park, one day before graduation, which is set for 7:30 p.m. at Ohio University Eastern.
Students attending Belmont-Harrison Career Center will graduate at 6 p.m. May 21, also at OUE.
Superintendent Walt Skaggs reported a new public address system will be installed in the elementary building in June and a final walkthrough for the doors and windows project at the school will take place this week.
Payments were approved for the following mentors - Lisa Giffin, Kathy Ranhart, Heidi Magnone, Jacqui Stall, Laurie Davenport, Bev Tomolonis and Christa Truchan.
Adam Richards (custodian) and Carla Padilla (secretary) were approved as classified substitutes for the 2013-14 school year. Kristin Wallace's transfer to sixth-grade science for the 2014-15 school year was approved, as was Jeff Vass' to second grade.
The Board approved payment of $600 to Kristen Schaffer as theater assistant director for the high school's production of Cinderella. A stipend of $3,000, paid through athletic funds, was approved for Luke Nelson for scoreboard programming for the fall and spring seasons.
Board members said yes to payment of $2,850 to Brian Faulkner for a cheerleading clinic for the 2014-15 school year from the high school cheering fund.
The Board accepted the following donations - Jeff Crosier (athletic fund, $25); Swan's Sport Shop (track and field, $713 and MH Cafe/MH Room, $150); Home&School (transportation for middle school, $269.45 and transportation for elementary, $414.27); Mr. & Mrs. Mike Fador (Kara Fador Scholarship, $2,000); Jenkins Sporting Goods (Close Up, $100).
Also approved were treasurer's recommendations for payment to Gordon Food Service for a purchase order for $13,604.33 and voluntary student accident insurance through Griffin Insurance for the 2013-14 school year.
The public portion of the meeting began with a presentation by members of the school's Destination Imagination (DI) students. Following the presentation, Skaggs recognized all of the students present.
Scott Connors also appeared before the Board regarding his concerns with pick-up and drop-off areas at the elementary building.
Also during the public portion of the meeting, David Varda, executive director of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO), presented the association's Southeast Region Distinguished Service Award to district treasurer Amy Porter.
The award came with a $500 scholarship to grant to a college-bound senior from the district.
