Bluegrass in the Hills ramps up for another season

HOPEDALE - To travel to Mickey's Mountain, site of the Bluegrass in the Hills festivals, one takes county roads out of Hopedale, and eventually turns onto a gravel road for one-half mile that climbs a steep hill. Woods hug the road on either side and everyone is headed in to enjoy the event! As one approaches the top of the hill you burst out into a field where, like lumbering beasts, the buses of the bands sit. Large, sleek buses with tinted windows and glistening paint jobs of maroon with gold trim, silver with black trim, or glossy all-black. The license plates are from Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, and other far away spots. You then realize that despite the rural location, you have arrived at a national-level bluegrass festival, what event promoter Calvin Mickey terms "the best kept secret in Harrison County." He feels that once people come, they're going to say, "Why haven't we been here before?"
