"First Time Behind Plow"

June 25, 2014
Times Leader

TAKEN IN 1935. First time behind plow for Harold Kuckuck. Shown at top of picture is a holding tank which held water pumped from a 17,000 gallon cement reservoir below house. Water was released as needed for vegetables growing below. Vegetables were prepared twice weekly and were taken by horse to grocery store in Martins Ferry and wholesale houses of Salina Bros. & Jebbia-Metz in Wheeling. A truck was later used for the semi-weekly trips. Each Spring, many people purchase plants there for their home gardens.
