YORKVILLE - Salon Envy never held a grand opening back when the business set out in October of 2012, but owner Carol Trouten has plans to compensate for that now. A celebration of sorts will be held at the salon, located at 302 Public Road, on July 19. The day will include refreshments, raffles and basket giveaways, and anyone is invited to come see what Salon Envy has to offer.
Trouten, a nail technician, previously worked at Eclips, also in Yorkville, but after that salon shuttered she found the building for Salon Envy and opened her own shop. The building had to be completely remodeled from a garage/apartment format to make it suitable, but she was up to the challenge. Trouten said she is comfortable in the Yorkville area, and wanted to remain near her client base.
Trouten said many people in the Yorkville-Tiltonsville-Rayland area don't seem to realize there is a comprehensive salon in their midst.

"When Eclips closed, people thought we were done," she said.
Most of the stylists who work at Salon Envy previously worked with Trouten at Eclips, and followed her to the new shop. However, Trouten says she doesn't call them employees, as they all do their own business through booth rental and deal directly with their clients, sometimes through texting on their own phones.
"We're up with the times," said Trouten.
Salon Envy is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, schedules are flexible and the stylists work to accommodate clients, who can make standing appointments with the stylist they prefer.
"We are really client-friendly here," said nail technician Lori Klempa. "Our customers come back."
There are no long wait times, and Salon Envy has its own parking lot so clients do not have to park on the street.
Salon Envy offers all the usual services for hair, including cuts, colors, highlights, and extensions. All the stylists are educated in cosmetology and seasoned, including newest stylist Ashley Baker, who joined the team in May. They make efforts to attend hair shows whenever possible.
"We do haircuts that fit the client, and each one is personalized," said stylist Thresa DePriest.
Trouten and Klempa also take their work as nail technicians seriously. They do not use drills, which Trouten says is comforting to clients even though it can take more time. They're also careful about cleanliness, using only disposable liners for pedicures.
"Safety is important to us," said Trouten, a self-proclaimed "stickler" for overall salon cleanliness.
Salon Envy also offers facial waxing and spray tans using Au Courant sunless tanning products.
In the future, Trouten hopes to rent out an available room, and maintain the family-friendly atmosphere at Salon Envy.
"We work well together," she said. "We're drama-free."
