There's an event on every sporting calendar that serves as the one that the players aim toward.
When you're talking about golf at Belmont Hills Country Club, that event is the Member Guest Invitational.
The 46th annual gets underway officially on Friday, but all of the events that surround it begin on Wednesday with the annual Champions Dinner.

PROUDLY WEARING their ‘Green Jackets’ after winning the 2013 Belmont Hills Country Club Member Guest Tournament are Dave Diosi and Kent Hess. The pair will be back in the field trying to win another title this week when the event opens on Friday morning.
From that point on, the focus shifts to who will win the coveted green jacket as the champions for 2014.
On Thursday, the players will get a chance to take a look at the course during an informal tournament where the players make their own foursomes and play 1 net, best ball with their tournament handicap.
Qualifying for the Great Par 3 shootout also begins. That evening, there will be a welcoming party at the pool.
The first match of the actual tournament goes off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with a shotgun start. The second match will begin at 11:30 a.m.
After dinner, the team putting contest and great par three chip off will begin.
The final day of the begins at 8:30 a.m. with the third match and the fourth match will again go off at 11:30 a.m.
The Flight Winners will be determined and then those duos will advance into the playoff.
The awards' dinner will begin at 7 p.m.
Back to defend their championship are member Dave Diosi and guest Kent Hess.
BELMONT HILLS 4TH OF JULY TOURNEY
The annual Fred & Mary Jo Mehlman Independence Day Tournament was held on Friday, utilizing the 2 net, best ball of four format.
The winning team, which shot a score of 114, was comprised of Rennie Minor, Ernie Wilson, Sonny Jacobs and Kevin Abel.
The second place foursome was comprised of Terry Carson, Mark Costine, Bob Zilai, Charles Melchiori. That team finished with a 117.
The third-place award went to Gary Young, Phil Pata Jr., Dr. Rob Looby and Rob Anderson. That squad finished with a 118. This team also captured the Red Ball winner with a score of 64.
JUNIOR TOURNEY AT BHCC
The Belmont Hills Country Club Junior Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, July 28th with divisions available for 17-18, 15-16 and 13-14 years old for the boys. The girls' divisions are 16-18 and 13-15.
Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each division.
The entry fee is $30 and it includes lunch for all participants and the lunch will be available for purchase for the spectators.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start and the deadline for entry is Monday, July 14.

WHEELING CC RESULTS
The Wheeling Country Club also held an Independence Day event, which used the format of one best ball gross plus one best ball net.
The winning team, which finished with a score of 127, was comprised of Carl Bippus, Jeff Shultz, Barry Hill and Billy Petroplus.
Second place went to T.O. II, J.T. Thomas, Jim Brinskey and Frank Joanou with a score of 128.
Third place with a score of 130 was captured by Scott Seabright, Rich Churilla, Tim Leonard and Mike Bailey.
The longest putt of the day was made by Bippus, while Jim Brinskey was closest to the pin on number six.
The First National Junior Bank Tour held an event at the Green Valley Golf Club on Monday. Nick Blakeley and Buckeye Trail's Jed Burga both posted round sof 76, but Blakely prevailed in a playoff for the medalist in the 16-18 year old division.
Martins Ferry's Joel Shane posted a solid round of 77, which was tied for third.
In the 12 and under division, Martins Ferry's Luke Krol posted a round of 53 for 9 holes to finish second overall.
St. Clairsville High product and current Alderson-Broaddus golfer Adam Jeffries finished ninth in the Mid Ohio Golf Tournament last weekend. Jeffries shot a two-day score of 142 for the solo position on the leaderboard. He posted rounds of 69 and 73.
Future Battler golfer Seth Vannoy - a 2014 St. C. High graduate - also took part in the event. He finished with a 156.
ROBBINS RIDGE LEAGUE
The senior league was held last week and the low net and low gross score for the week was shared by Stavroff and Mayberry along with Pilck and McJessey with a round of 34.
The closest to the pin was recorded by John Samida and the closest to the pin on the second shot was captured by Frank Harr.

The event is a 3-person scramble and the cost is $150 per team with all proceeds benefitting the Buckeye Local Football program. The cost is $50 per player or $200 per team and registration is due by July 12. The cost includes cart, green fees, food, refreshments, prizes and door prizes. There will be an optional skins game for $5.
