ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Are you ready for some racing?
Hundreds of racers are getting ready for some friendly competition and a "Battle in the Woods" as Powerline Park will host American Woods Racing Championship Series an off-road racing series that features mini, youth and adult racing of ATVs, dirtbikes and UTVs - on July 19-20.
AWRCS is owned and operated by Steve Stiller, of Stiller Motorsports in Kittanning, Pa., but while the series is based in Kittanning, the circuit of racing has grown to encompass the tri-state area.
"We enjoy coming to the Ohio Valley, even though we are up against Jamboree, it doesn"t affect the focus of our racers," Stiller, whose wife, Amy, is a Dillonvale native, said.
"We expect a large crowd at Powerline it has been a favorite track of many of our racers and a national track of GNCC ," Stiller added. "There are also a lot of local racers to watch and support from the area.
"We have been averaging about 400-500 racers over a racing weekend and some of the top pro racers, he said. "Our goal is to keep it family-oriented and encourage mini and youth riders to gain experience.
"Our racers start at pre-school age and go up to age 70."
He said the events are every two to four weeks and they try to find properties about 400 acres - within two hours of the Pittsburgh area - to keep it manageable for the racers. The series operates its own website - awrcs.com - in which people can get more information on the series.
"If someone wants to race they just need to come out to an event in the morning ready to race," Stiller said.
Racing begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the mini ATV race. The youth ATV competition starts at 10, with the adults getting underway at noon. The UTVs start at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, the dirt bikes take to the track, with the minis at 9 a.m.; youth at 10 and adults at noon.
