Gayle L. Jackowski, 58, of Flushing, OH, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus, OH, as the result of a motorcycle accident.
She was born December 24, 1955 in Barnesville, OH, a daughter of the late Arthur Mercer and Betty Murphy Mercer Shutway.
Gayle was an employee of First Choice Energy Bulk Fuel Depot in Harrisville, OH, and was a member of the former St. Mary Catholic Church, Lafferty, OH.
Gayle was proud to be the first woman in the state of Ohio to earn a historic boiler operator's license for a steam traction engine, and was a member of the Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG), the Upper Ohio Valley Harley Davidson Association and the Union Local Football Moms. She was an assistant Little League baseball coach in Lafferty, and donated hair to the Locks of Love Foundation and crocheted hats for many cancer patients.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Edward Shutway, and her father-in-law and mother- in-law, Mike and Laura Jackowski.
Surviving are her loving husband of 39 years, Carl D. Jackowski of Flushing; a son, C. Denis (Kelli) Jackowski of Shadyside, OH; her brothers and sisters: Carol (Scott) Roe, Mary Margaret "Peg" Klayko, Bruce (Sindy) Mercer, Randy (Kim) Mercer and Sam (Karen) Shutway, all of Flushing; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Beck- Altmeyer Funeral Home & Crematory, 204 West Main St., St. Clairsville, where services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Chester Pabin officiating. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven, Lafferty.
