A PRESENTATION involving the Rev. Donald Burge of the First United Methodist Church, Martins Ferry, at left, and Robert "Shorty" Wilson, who handled the Salvation Army's Christmas basket project as well as other endeavors in the city, occurred several decades ago. The church will celebrate its 200th anniversary Sept. 20-21. An "old-fashioned camp meeting" with several musical groups performing and the portrayal of Ebenezer Martin by the Rev. Tom Thomas will be held Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. Scheduled Sunday, Sept. 21, at the church are an anniversary service, 10:30 a.m.; social hour, noon; and a dinner, 1 p.m. During the dinner, Kate Quinn will portray Catherine Martin, mother of the city's founder, Ebenezer Martin, and daughter of pioneer Ebenezer Zane. Mrs. Martin began a class, which was the first Methodist gathering in the community about 1814.
