The Ohio Valley Golf Association heats up again this week with the fifth annual Bella Via Amateur slated for Saturday and Sunday at Wheeling Park.
The event will have a purse of more than $3,000 at stake for players in medal division (18-49), senior medal (50-59) and super senior medal (60 and over) as well as junior medal (17 and under). There will also be best ball and senior best ball.
The entry fee is $90 per person, $50 for those with a season pass or $70 with a discount card. The entry fee includes cart and lunch for both days.
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The A & B Kia 9-hole bestball event was held on Aug. 17.
Jim Ennis and Bob Green prevailed in the event with a round of 32. That was the same score posted by Roger Kupfer and Art Lightner.
Finishing third in the medal division were Paul Alig Sr. and Orie Robinson with a round of 35. Jim Druschel and Mike Crow finished fourth (35) and Nick Klamut and Bob McLaughlin (36) were fifth.
In the handicap scoring, Russ Travis and Dennis Porter posted a 28. The second-place duo consisted of Shawn Schwertfeger and Dave Scollick, which carded a round of 30.
Tony Campbell and Stan Traylor teamed for a third-place finish with a score of 31.
The Ohio Valley Awards event was also held and it, too, consisted of a 9-hole, 2-man scramble format.
The winning duo was Kupfer and Lightner with a score of 31. Ennis and Green were second with a 31.
Finishing third was Alig and Robinson with a 32.
Ted Koski and Bob Hicks won the handicap scoring with a round of 27, which was better than Travis and Porter by a stroke.
The St. Joseph Holy Name Scramble was held last Saturday at Fairway River Links. The team of Lucas, Stiles, Ginty and Azaliaw captured the top prize, while setting for second was the squad of Boroski, Boroski, Clark and Yanok.

NARDO MEMORIAL SCRAMBLE
The inaugural Dominick Nardo Memorial Scholarship Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Belmont Hills Country Club with a shotgun start slated for 9 a.m. The entry fee is $125 per player and that includes golf, lunch, beverages, snacks, dinner and prizes.

OV Seniors Tournament
One of the oldest tournaments in the Ohio Valley will tee it up on Aug. 25 at Wheeling Country Club.
The Ohio Valley Seniors Golf Association, consisting of clubs from Belmont Hills, Cadiz, East Liverpool, Moundsville, Steubenville, Wheeling and Williams Country Club, will hold its event at Wheeling CC.
This will be a medal and handicap event for players over 50. The age groups are 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 and above.
The third annual Rick Bear Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Cadiz Country Club. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. and registration begins at 10 a.m. The four-man scramble has an entry fee of $60 per player and that includes mulligans.
