CADIZ - A Cadiz business is under new ownership, but patrons can expect their favorite items and low prices to stick around.
Darrin and Ericka Young are the new owners of the ice cream stand located within Sally Buffalo Park, near the baseball fields. It was previously owned by Karen Cobb and called KC's Tasty Treats. The Youngs will be changing the name to D & E Dairyland.
Darrin and Ericka are experienced business owners; they've been the owners and operators of D & E Electric for over 11 years.
"We just thought, with all the businesses here on Industrial Park, it would be a good investment," Ericka said.
The Youngs officially took ownership on Aug. 19. Ericka said her mother, mother-in-law, sister and niece are all pitching in to make the business a success.
Some small changes have already been made. For example, the ice cream stand now accepts credit and debit cards. Young also plans to offer daily specials and is looking into making deliveries to Cadiz businesses during lunch hours.
However, the food and prices will stay the same. D & E offers a variety of ice cream including soft-serve and hand-dipped sugar or waffle cones, milkshakes, sundaes, flurries and brownie bowls. Pumpkin is being offered as a new flavor.
Food items include Italian sausage, pulled pork, hamburgers, nachos, taco-in-a-bag, pizza, hot dogs, french fries, onion rings, a menagerie of fried vegetables and more.
Young says the business will stay open until at least Nov. 1 and will re-open in March or early April. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
