ADENA - Two men have been charged in relation to a crime that caused damage to Adena's police cruiser.
Sean D. Kubic, of 122 Third St., Tiltonsville, and Eli Bowers, of 74600 16th Road, Cadiz, have been charged with theft, a felony of the fourth degree, and criminal damaging, a misdemeanor of the second degree.
On July 22 at 1:30 a.m., the men allegedly attached the cruiser, which was locked at the village municipal building, to the hitch of a truck and dragged the vehicle approximately 0.2 mile down the street. Significant damage was caused to the 1999 Ford Explorer.
Both men were summoned to appear in Jefferson County Court on Aug. 20. However, flooding caused the hearing to be delayed.
No attorney was listed for Bowers according to public docket information, and Kubic's attorney did not return a call seeking comment. Records show Kubic's attorney filed for a subpoena for production of evidence on Adena Police Chief Rob Rea.
Kubic's preliminary hearing is now scheduled for Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. No hearing is currently scheduled for Bowers.
Officials in Adena are waiting on an insurance report to decide whether they will repair the cruiser or purchase a new one.
The age of the vehicle will be considered.
