Off The Tee: Timko and Armann claim Member-Guest at BHCC

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — John Timko and Sam Armann teammed up to claim the championship at the 49th annual Member-Guest Invitational at Belmont Hills Country Club following a playoff.

Brian Delloma and Ian McClain were second, while Jamie Simon and Bill Piko were third.

Six teams started the playoff, with the final three duos advancing to No. 5. From there, Timko/Armann and Delloma/McClain advanced to No. 9. There, they tied, moving action back to No. 1.

At the first hole, Armann nailed a birdie to give he and Timko the title, ending Delloma and McClain’s one-year reign as champs.

”Sam played his best golf of the week playing the four playoff holes at even par,” Timko said. ”His trusty 3-wood carried us to victory. His birdie on the final hole was the key to our success.”

”To win this with so many good players in the field makes it very special,” Timko continued. ”Every shot in the playoff was magnified as you knew it could determine the outcome.”

Fight winners were — Sam Kelly and Alex Saseen (1), Delloma and McClain (2), Ernie Wilson and Terry Wehr (3), Timko and Armann (4) and Simon and Piko (5).

John Estadt and Bob Bentley finished first in the team putting contest. Delloma and McClain were second followed by the tandems of Phil Pata Jr. and Matt Lucki, Mike McTeague and Denny Lewis, and John Sambuco and Kyle Carreon.

Armann picked up another triumph in the Par 3 Shootout. Wehr was second, followed by Rick Frio, Jimmy Bohus, Tim Conway, Bryan Woodford, AJ Bergstresser and Chuck Newell.

Wilson and Wehr claimed the 10 & Under Pool.

BHCC Playing Host to Junior Tournament

Belmont Hills Country Club will be playing host to a junior tournament Monday, July 31. There will be a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

There will age divisions of 17-18, 15-16 and 13-14 for boys and 16-18 and 13-15 for girls. Awards will be presented to first through third place in all divisions.

Entry fee of $30 is payable to Barnesville Golf Parents. Lunch will be provided for all contestants and available for purchase for all spectators.

Monday is the deadline for entry.

WPGC Welcomes Event

Chris Bommer and Jim Druschel were winners in their respective categories during recent action at Wheeling Park Golf Club, sponsored by Wheeling Spring Service.

Bommer won the Medal title with a 34. Bob Green and Gary Mercer tied for second with 36, followed by Rich Colley with 39 and Tom Mitchell and Steve Usenick, who both shot 41.

Druschel carded a 33, along with Joe Kosar. Dick Moore fired a 34, while Ray Coe, Tony Campbell and Bill Piccard all shot 36.

Junior Golf Continues

The First National Bank Junior Tour continued its way across Eastern Ohio recently with a stop at Carroll Meadows Golf Course in Carrollton.

There a few local players made their marks.

In the Boys’ 13-15 Division, Martins Ferry’s Luke Krol shot an 82. St. Clairsville’s Will Foster carded a 99, while Buckeye Trail’s Noah Castello and Micah Millhon both shot a 111.

In the Boys’ 12 & Under Division, Trail’s Aidan Castello had a 71.

The seventh annual Vance Deihl Memorial Scholarship Scramble is slated for Saturday at Cadiz Country Club. The entry fee is $60 per player with checks made payable to Vance Deihl Memorial Scholarship Fund. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the tournament begins at 8 a.m. The entry fee includes beverages, lunch at the turn and dinner after the round. Powhatan Saner Post 228 American Legion Youth Fund is sponsoring a three man golf scramble on August 5 at 9 a.m. at Clairmar golf course in Powhatan. The entry fee is $200 per team and hole sponsorships are available for $50. Fee includes cart, beverages, lunch at turn and dinner following. Teams are limited. The St. Joseph, Tiltonsville, Holy Name Society is sponsoring its 35th annual four-man golf scramble on Saturday, August 12 at Fairway River Links in Rayland. Entry fee for the 7 a.m. shotgun start is $50 per golfer and includes a golf cart and continuous food and beverages. Cash prizes, skins game, closest-to-the-pin competition and 50/50 raffle are also scheduled. Hole sponsorships are available at $25.
