St. Clairsville halts losing streak; Ferry outscores Creek

St. Clairsville halted a rare 2-game losing streak with a 3-1 high school baseball victory over homestanding Union Local in Morristown Wednesday afternoon.

Greyson Loweecy went the distance on the mound for the Red Devils (4-2), striking out 10 and walking three in hurling a 4-hitter.

Luke Smith knocked in the game-winning runs with a 1-out, 2-run single to center in the top of the sixth. Ben Evick singled in the other run in the fifth, while Matt Kinnick recorded a pair of base knocks.

Eric Dunfee singled in the Jets (1-8) lone run in the fourth.

Cameron Smith only allowed four hits in taking the loss.

Martins Ferry 12 Indian Creek 11

At Wintersville, the Purple Riders held off host Indian Creek.

Ferry led 10-3 at one point before Creek rallied, eventually scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh before Ferry’s Jonathan Carlier recorded the final out.

Michael Oberdick preceded Carlier to the hill. Earning the win, Overdick registered one K and two walks.

Tyler Donahue was one of seven Purple Riders driving in baserunners. Donahue singled and doubled, good for three RBIs.

Joe Myers singled and plated a pair. Oberdick aided his cause with a single and two ribbies.

Carlier, Robert Vargo and Andrew Chlon each collected two hits and a run batted in.

Tyler Strama contributed a single and RBI.

Bellaire 8,

Harrison Central 5

At Bellaire, the Big Reds (7-2) scored half of their runs in the first inning en route to the victory on Chase Field.

Brady Hall singled four times to drive in three runs to lead Bellaire’s 12-hit attack. Spencer Badia plated two runs with a single and double. Nick Patrone singled and doubled, while Nick McMahon added two singles. Wyatt back knocked in a run with a single and Braylen Snell added an RBI.

Drew Horn and Dalton Rutter each singled twice for the Huskies (5-4). Nick Pelegreen doubled.

Linsly 16, Barnesville 2

At Barnesville, after starting out the season 4-0, the Shamrocks have fell upon rough times of late.

A day after being no-hit by previuosly winless Union Local, Barnesville (4-2) surrendered 10 first-inning runs to visiting Linsly at Memorial Park.

Haydon Stanley had two singled and a pair of doubles for the Cadets. Winning pitcher MoMo Felt doubled in three runs, while striking out four.

Preston Dornon and Zach Dornon each singled in runs for the Shamrocks.

Edison 9, Buckeye Local 1

At Connorville, Greg Stagani struck out nine and scattered six hits in pitching the Wildcats (8-0) past the host Panthers (1-8) at Mazeroski Field.

He also knocked in two runs with a pair of singles and a double. Warren Rawlings added a pair of one-base raps, while Nolan Marcus singled and doubled.

Corey Slaga singled twice for Buckeye Local, while Jonathan Borkoski singled in the lone run. Chase Hopkins added a double.

Paden City 14,

St. John Central 2

At Paden City, the host Wildcats banged out a dozen hits and took advantage of five Irish errors.
