Leasure, Castle prevail at Claymont CC

Prep cross country season got into full swing as several area teams took part in their first invitational of the season at the Claymont Early Bird.

St. Clairsville’s boys finished fourth in the meet with 145 points and St. John Central was ninth with 225 in the large school division.

Fighting Irish senior Corey Leasure ran to the victory in the meet with a time of 16:25.

St. Clairsville senior Drake Walker was second with a time of 16:41.

On the girls’ side, St. Clairsville’s girls were fifth with 151 points, while the Lady Irish were 12th with 256 tallies.

The Lady Red Devils were led by senior standout Amy Castle who ran away from the field, posting an impressive 18:45.

Classmate Julianna Madzia was 15th overall in a time of 20:56.

St. John Central’s Fallon Doyle was third overall in 19:17.

In the small school girls’ race, Martins Ferry finished fourth with 85 points.

The Lady Riders were led by senior Sunshine Wrenn and Jamie Truchan, who finished third and fourth, respectively in 20:32 and 20:47.

Lindsay Cunningham was 15th overall and third for the Lady Riders.

AT MARIETTA, Union Local’s girls finished fourth. Hannah Nagy led the way for the Lady Jets with a 10th place finish.
