Sports memorabilia auction planned to benefit St. C. Playground Project

If you’ve been hoping to have your very own autographed photo of Troy Polamalu or Mario Lemieux, now is your chance.

The St. Clairsville Elementary Community Playground project is sponsoring a Sports Jam Memorabilia Charity Auction on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Generations Pub in Wheeling. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 7. In addition to the live auction, there will also be a silent auction, chinese auction, 50/50, and additional games and prizes.

Some of the live auction items include autographed photos of Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, Mario Lemieux and Lou Holtz; Ohio State and West Virginia University panoramic stadium views; and a Michael Waltrip autographed jacket. Other items available throughout the evening include two sets of Steelers-Browns tickets, Seinfeld tickets, Thirty-One bags with Ohio State and West Virginia themed patterns and Wheeling Nailers jerseys. Non-sports items will also be available, including a consultation with landscaper Gabe Hays and unique wood carvings done by local artist Dave Sloan.

“This will be a fun event and attendees are encouraged to support their teams and wear their team jerseys,” said Jacki Keenan, one of the event organizers.

The event’s major sponsors are Convenient Food Mart, St.Clairsville; Jason S. Newton, DPM; Kelly’s Suite II Unlimited; Wal-Mart; Economy Auto Sales II, Inc.; Goliath Realty; Hocking Eye Care; Outback Steakhouse; and Sonotone Hearing Aid Center.

The goal of the fund-raising event is to continue to support the development of a fun and safe playground for children in the St. Clairsville Elementary School community. The Community Playground project was designed by a group of concerned teachers and parents. The committee reformed this past year and, with the support and generosity of many, the group was able to complete the first phase of the project involving excavating and infrastructure.

The committee is now looking to raise funds as the project moves to phase two, which entails purchasing and installing the major structure for the kids to play. “There is still approximately $64,000 left to raise for the main structure,” Keenan stated, “So fundraisers like the Sports Memorabilia Auction are helping to supplement that.” The structure will also provide accessibility to children with special needs.

Tickets to the event are $20 and include beer, non-alcoholic beverages and concession style food. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at any of these locations: Sonotone Hearing Aid Center, Howard St., Bridgeport; Jenkins Sporting Goods, Main St., St. Clairsville; Swan’s Sports Shop, Main St., St. Clairsville; Hays Landscape Architecture Studio, Main St., St. Clairsville; Generations Pub, National Rd., Wheeling.
