St. Clairsville to play Piketon in Logan

After nearly 36 hours of speculation, the St. Clairsville Red Devils learned the location for their next playoff game.

The Red Devils will meet fifth-seeded Piketon in the Division IV, Region 15 semifinals Friday night at Chieftan Stadium at Logan High School.

The sites for the second, third and fourth rounds are determined by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Chieftan Stadium is a top-notch facility that features plenty of seating and an artificial turf playing surface.

However, it’s more than 2 hours away from St. Clairsville and just 60-plus miles from Piketon.

None of that matters to Red Devils’ head coach Brett McLean.

“I am excited about Logan; it’s a beautiful place,” McLean said via text message shortly after learning of where his Devils were headed. “We will embrace the travel and make the most out of it.”

McLean also encouraged the Red Devil fans to make the trip and continue the support they’ve provided for the first 11 weeks.

“We hope our fans come down and make it a great experience for all,” McLean said.

St. Clairsville improved to 11-0 on the season by virtue of a 41-6 victory against OVAC rival Harrison Central at Red Devil Stadium.

Piketon, meanwhile, went on the road and avenged an earlier loss when it ousted Minford, 49-27.

The survivor of Friday’s game will find itself in the Elite 8, AKA the Region 15 title game, against the winner of second-seeded Ironton and third-seeded Johnstown Monroe. That game will be played basically right down U.S. 33 from Logan at The Plains High School in Athens.

Advance tickets for the St. Clairsville game will go on sale Tuesday, according to Red Devils’ Athletic Director Kelly Rine. The tickets are $7 in advance and will be available at Jenkins and Swan’s through Thursday. They’ll also be on sale at the high school until noon on Friday.

Steubenville, which took care of Zanesville Maysville Saturday night at Harding Stadium, will next take on West Holmes in the Division III, Region 11 tournament.

West Holmes reached this point by eliminating Indian Creek on its home field.

Big Red and the Knights will clash at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium in New Philadelphia Saturday.

The winner of that game will take on the survivor of Dover and Poland Seminary, which will meet in Akron.
