Balanced UL cruises past Lady Huskies
CADIZ – The homestanding Huskies fell to backdoor rival Union Local Thursday night inside the John Stephenson Center by a 66-43 margin.
Despite a strong start by the Huskies in which they jumped out to a 6-point lead and had some success with a full court press in the opening minutes, they were unable to sustain the momentum.
“It seems like every time we play them they get up in our face and we forget what we were coached to do,” said Harrison Central head coach Nick Yourkovich. “They were tougher than us, it was what you would call an old fashioned butt whipping.”
The Jets would roll in the last four minutes of the first frame outscoring the Huskies 17-2 and never looked back.
“Defensively tonight we flew to the ball better,” said Union Local head coach Drew Greenwood. “Collins and Patton did a nice job inside for us cleaning off the backside boards.
“Our interior post D was solid but as you know that only is successful if your guards are pressuring the outside and our guards did a nice job as well,” Greenwood complimented.
The Jets had three players in double figures with Cori Medley taking top gun honors tallying 19 points. Kayla Doty was on her wing with 15 points and Dallas Montag tailed in 13.
Union Local shot an impressive 15 of 19 from the charity stripe.
Kara Dunfee paced Harrison Central with 15 lightings. Shannon Compher added 10 points and Katie Ellzy pulled down 13 rebounds for the Huskies. Harrison Central made good on 4 of just 7 foul shooting opportunities.
The Huskies are now 5-6. The Jets improve to 8-4 and travel to St. Clairsville Monday evening.
Harrison Central won the jayvee contest 38-34.
