Harrison Central girls edge past Barnesville; Devils fall

Trailing by six points after three periods, Harrison Central’s Lady Huskies roared back, outpointing Barnesville 24-10 over the final eight minutes to score a 56-48 Saturday afternoon girls’ basketball victory at Cadiz.

Winning for a seventh time in 15 outings, Harrison Central travels to Martins Ferry for 7:00 varsity only Monday night tipoff.

The Lady Huskies led Barnesville 8-7 after one period Saturday before Barnesville came back for a 22-18 halftime advantage. The Lady Rocks led 38-32 after three panels.

Harrison juniors Kara Dunfee (17) and Jesse Ledger (15) combined for 32 points.

The winners also received a 15-point, eight-rebound performance from sophomore Katie Ellzy. Jess Custer contributed seven rebounds and five assists.

Freshman Shaela Markovich topped the Lady Rocks with 15 points. Sophomore Layna Broomhall provided 10-point support.

Harrison was a 32-21 leader off the glass. The winners also led in turnovers, 18-14.

Steubenville Central 46, Beallsville 44

AT Beallsville, the host Lady Blue Devils couldn’t connect on a potential game-tying shot before time expired against SCC. Saturday’s setback dropped Beallsville to 4-11.

Central edged ahead 5-3 after one period then extended the spread to 14-8 at halftime. Beallsville rallied for 28-26 leadership after three rounds but could not hold on.

Micca Mirabella topped the Crusaders with 11 points. Miranda Parkinson pitched in 10 tallies. Beallsville’s Katie Kinney totaled 16 points and nine boards. Mikaela Headley hooped 12 points with Madison Stephen scoring 10 points.

Stephen also distributed seven assists and recorded five steals.

Beallsville takes to the road for a Monday night (6:30) varsity only tipoff at St. John Central.
