Harrison Central roars back to win
Harrison Central’s Lady Huskies roared back from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit to overtake Bellaire Monday night at Cadiz.
Coach Marci Bonar’s Lady Reds were seemingly in control maintaining a 66-49 upperhand before Harrison staged a mammoth rally to force overtime and eventually prevail, 79-73.
Bellaire took a 19-12 lead after one period then opened a 38-29 intermission advantage. The Lady Reds went on for a 58-48 lead before Harrison finished regulation on a 19-2 run. Coach Nick Yourkovich’s Huskies outpointed the visitors 11-5 in the extra session including a nine-point outburst by junior Kara Dunfee.
Harrison sophomore Katie Ellzy erupted for a career-best 31-point output. Ellzy also landed a game-high 14 rebounds. Both Dunfee and Jesse Ledger contributed 18 points apiece.
Bellaire’s Cari Crozier topped the Reds with 21 tallies. Kierstyn Kidder connected for 17 points. Nina Crook cashed in 15 markers and Myleah Green netted 10.
Bellaire led off the glass 29-25 and also in turnovers, 22-17. Dunfee delivered four assists.
Harrison Central (9-10) which visits Newcomerstown on Thursday, dropped a 39-35 decision in Monday’s jayvee contest.
Edison 57, Buckeye Local 44
At Richnond, Edison’s Lady Huskies mounted a quick 18-6 first panel lead over Buckeye Local and went on for a 57-44 decision over Willy Luther’s Lady Panthers.
Molly McCoy and Kaitlyn Pollock tallied 17 points apiece for the winners. Buckeye received a 12-point outing from Amy Balk. Becky Zeroski and Alexus Valuska added nine and eight points, respectively.
St. John Central 59, Cameron 29
At Cameron, the Irish placed four players in double figures in downing Cameron, 59-29, Monday night.
The Lady Irish are now 14-6 and will host an OVAC Class A semifinal Monday.
Kristen Russell led the winners with 16 points and 11 rebounds while frosh guard Marissa Rose contributed 14 markers.
Fellow frosh Lindsey Froehlich tallied 12 points, grabbed 12 boards and blocked six shots for SJC while senior Kaydie Coppa delivered 10 lightings.
Neely Benline paced the Lady Dragons with 11 points.
Bishop Donahue 60, East Richland Christian 13
At McMechen, the host Lady Bishops mounted a 37-6 halftime upperhand over East Richland Christian and went on for a decisive victory.
Susanna Yourko tallied four points for the Lady Lions.
Monroe Central 74, Caldwell 32
At Caldwell, the Seminoles received double figure scoring from four players.
Chelsie Roberts led the quartet with 16 points, one more than Chelsie Tewanger. Melanie Stimpert added 14 and Laycie Ball a dozen.
Frontier 54, Beallsville 44
At New Matamoras, the Cougars defeated the Blue Devils. No details were provided.
