Prep Basketball Roundup: Bridgeport girls get back on track

Bridgeport’s girls’ basketball team got back to its winning ways Wednesday evening with a 64-40 victory at Toronto.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 13-1 on the season and bounced back impressively from their first loss on Monday to River. They’ll return to the court on Friday, hosting Cameron.

Bridgeport built a 15-8 lead after one and upped it to 35-16 at the intermission. Head Coach Rob Zitzlesberger watched the Lady Red Knights claw back with a 15-4 third before Bridgeport closed strong.

The Lady Bulldogs’ three-headed monster of frosh Kaitlyn Kroll, junior Maclaine Murad and junior Nicole Smolenak. They trio went for 19, 17 and 14, respectively.

Smolenak had a fine all-around floor game with five assists and a like number of steals. Murad went for nine rebounds, while Kroll collected six loose balls.

Buckeye Trail 43, Barnesville 18

AT BARNESVILLE, Katie Larrick fired in 19 points as Buckeye Trail defeated Barnesville.

Kayleigh Smith added 10 points for the Warriors (4-10), while Allison Sichina chipped in eight.

Shaela Markovich led the Lady Shamrocks with six points.
