Division II wrestlers headed to Heath for district

The Buckeye Local and Harrison Central grapplers find themselves on the doorstep of the Division II State Tournament.

A total of nine local matmen will make the trip to Heath High School, which is near Newark, to compete in the district tournament with the top four finishers in each weight class earning a trip to the state tournament next weekend at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.

BUCKEYE LOCAL – under first-year head coach Guy Nestor – will take six participants to the district tournament.

At 113 pounds, senior Sam Ronevich is the Panthers’ entrant. He’s 38-14 on the season and will tangle with River Valley’s Raymond Raimo, who is 39-6.

Senior standout Nathan Kirk, who won the sectional title last weekend, will lead the charge at 138 pounds for the Panthers. Kirk is now 42-8 on the season and will face West Holmes’ Jack Scherer, who is 17-14 on the season.

Sophomore Josh Sokolowski will take part in the 152-pound bracket. He’s now 37-12 on the season and will take on Big Walnut’s Austin Carr, who is 24-17.

Freshman Tristan Jones has put together a solid campaign and is currently 27-17 on the season. He’ll meet Granville junior Will Navin, who is 41-6.

Senior J.P. Soloman finished fourth in the sectional last weekend and will tangle with Lakewood’s J.R. King in the first round. Soloman is 31-14, while King is 37-7.

Freshman Simeon Smith squeaked into the district as the fourth-place finisher at 285 pounds in last week’s sectional. He’s currently 8-15 on the season and will face off against 44-1 Alex Farrow of Whitehall Yearling.

HARRISON CENTRAL – The Huskies have had a very solid season and have three in the hunt still for the state tournament.

Freshman Anthony Heavilin will get things started for Huskies at 106 pounds. He’s currently 28-9 on the season and will meet Claymont frosh Tyler Warner, who is 32-5.

Junior David Forrester earned his way to the second level of competition at 120 pounds. He’s currently 26-11 for the season and will meet Buckeye Valley’s freshman Chance Haynes, who is 35-5.

Sophomore Hunter Pizzino will represent the Huskies at 126 pounds. Now 37-9 on the season, Pizzino will meet Utica sophomore Austin Parmer.
